Seg\u00fan el Centro para el Control de Enfermedades (CDC), cada a\u00f1o m\u00e1s de 400 personas mueren y 20,000 personas visitan la sala de emergencias debido a una <a href=\"https:\/\/www.airchecklab.com\/topic\/carbon-monoxide\/\">intoxicaci\u00f3n involuntaria por CO<\/a> .<\/span><\/p>\n<p>El aire respirable comprimido no es inmune a este peligro.<\/p>\n<p>Un verano, <a href=\"https:\/\/www.itv.com\/news\/granada\/2017-06-29\/twelve-pupils-taken-ill-with-suspected-carbon-monoxide-poisoning-during-scuba-diving-lesson\">12 estudiantes en el Reino Unido fueron hospitalizados por intoxicaci\u00f3n por mon\u00f3xido de carbono despu\u00e9s de tomar una clase de buceo<\/a> . Desafortunadamente, algunas de estas situaciones se vuelven mortales, como en el caso de una <a href=\"https:\/\/www.cbc.ca\/news\/canada\/calgary\/instructor-of-calgarian-who-died-while-diving-also-felt-sick-1.1162791\">mujer de Calgary que muri\u00f3 mientras buceaba<\/a> en la costa de M\u00e9xico en 2012.<\/p>\n<p>El mon\u00f3xido de carbono es peligroso porque compite con el ox\u00edgeno por los sitios de uni\u00f3n en las c\u00e9lulas de hemoglobina que se encuentran en la sangre. En concentraciones suficientemente altas, puede matar en menos de una hora. Si bien no se comprenden bien los efectos de la exposici\u00f3n a niveles m\u00e1s bajos de mon\u00f3xido de carbono, se cree que la exposici\u00f3n a largo plazo puede causar da\u00f1os graves, a veces permanentes, tanto en el cerebro como en el coraz\u00f3n. Al igual que el CO2, el CO en el aire comprimido proviene principalmente del propio compresor o del aire que ingiere el compresor. El CO es producto de una combusti\u00f3n incompleta y algunos compresores tienen lubricantes a base de aceite que pueden calentarse y producir mon\u00f3xido de carbono. En este caso, sus resultados tambi\u00e9n pueden mostrar niveles elevados de hidrocarburos. Ir\u00f3nicamente, si su compresor tiene un filtro de carb\u00f3n, su filtro puede oxidarse si el compresor se calienta demasiado, lo que hace que el filtro contribuya con CO al aire que respira en lugar de evitarlo.<\/p>\n<p><b>Mantener su compresor en buen estado puede reducir este tipo de fallas.<\/b><\/p>\n<p>Sin embargo, la raz\u00f3n m\u00e1s com\u00fan de contaminaci\u00f3n por CO es el aire de admisi\u00f3n del compresor. Si bien su compresor tiene filtros dise\u00f1ados para eliminar contaminantes, incluido el CO, estos filtros deben usarse correctamente y cambiarse regularmente para que sigan siendo efectivos. Puede reducir este riesgo asegur\u00e1ndose de que su consumo se realice en un \u00e1rea bien ventilada y lejos de posibles fuentes de mon\u00f3xido de carbono. Enviar una muestra de aire ambiental junto con la muestra de su compresor puede ayudarlo a saber si el aire de admisi\u00f3n es la fuente de su contaminaci\u00f3n. Si sabe o sospecha que su entrada de aire puede ser la fuente de su contaminaci\u00f3n, intente alejar la entrada de las fuentes de mon\u00f3xido de carbono o, si eso no es posible, tenga en cuenta cuando su compresor est\u00e1 funcionando.<\/p>\n<p>El mon\u00f3xido de carbono en el aire respirable es peligroso, pero puede evitarse siendo proactivo en el mantenimiento de su compresor y siendo consciente del aire que est\u00e1 absorbiendo.
